Well, since a lot of us are getting close to double-digit viewings . . . what little details have you seen that were so subtle that you missed it the first couple times around and just recently noticed? Maybe we've been missing it too and we can watch for it next time!
I think my favorite is when WALL-E is trying to find a replacement eye . . . when he starts the rotating shelves, EVE whips her gun out and starts trying to aim at every compartment. When I noticed that I just thought it was so funny because it was just the kind of thing she would do -- even when there was no reason to pull out the gun, she just pulls it out automatically at anything that moves.

I'm the kind of person who would notice these things right away and then forget about them about a minute later.
Anyway, at the end, when M-O's shooing everyone away in the background to give WALL-E and EVE some privacy, I love how BRL-A leans into the frame to try to sneak a peek.

That was my favorite edge-of-the-screen bit, and I noticed on first viewing.

Hi, new here... Just came from the intro page...
there's one detail that I find interesting: The posters featuring the captains, each have the years they served as captain, as you get closer to the "present" the dates becomes vague. For the current captain we see he started in the year 2??0 which is quite nondescript indeed. I think it is a way to signify that the humans lost track and interest of the years. Certainly the ship computer would know the exact dates.

Although this is probably not the best thread for it, I do agree that that is an interesting detail, and I agree with your assessment completely, they very likely did stop "counting" as it were. The Captain is at least sure that the date of the A110 message was "almost" 700 years ago, so I think they may still have some sense of time, just not an exact year.

In the spaceship scene while Wall-E clings onto the side of the ship, the satellite Sputnik is actually stuck on Wall-E's binoculars, haha
Add: Oh, and also, I don't know if this counts as an edge of the frame thing as it's more of an observation, but the shelves Wall-E uses to store his treasures was actually at one point used to house the other Wall-E units, which explains why he sleeps on the shelf lol

This probably doesn't count...but after seeing the movie for the first time, during my subsequent viewings, I kept trying to pick out the scene when GO-4 takes the plant from EVE's chamber. For some reason, it wasn't until I had seen it several times that I realized that we actually see AUTO instructing GO-4 to take the plant (in the background) right before AUTO opens the floor and WALL-E falls through onto the Captain's deck.
Oh, and it also took me six viewings to catch the BU...RGE "Bush, George" reference that I mentioned in another thread.
I'm sure there are other things that took me several viewings to catch, I just can't think of them off the top of my head.
EDIT: I just remembered...I guess this is obvious, but it took me a number of viewings to catch this. When WALL-E waves to the typing bot and goes to get on the elevator, the typing bot looks down at his hand and waves it. He's staring at his hand in an odd way, as though the concept of waving his hand is new and strange to him. This is an obvious detail, but I guess I missed it because my eyes were always on WALL-E. WALL-E demands all of my attention when he's on screen.

Yeah, I like that part with the typing bot. It was a great example of the many "human" things WALL-E teaches the robots on the Axiom.
I don't think I have anything else to contribute that people haven't already mentioned, sorry.

I'm not sure exactly why I just crack up at this every time . . . but when John is trying to hand his cup to WALL-E and WALL-E keeps backing away from him, John finally reaches too far and falls off his chair. While he's helpless on the ground, WALL-E reaches over and gently takes the cup from him. Sort of like, "Oh, sorry about that . . . I can take it now if you still want me to."

Wow, Bubblegum! I have seen the movie 10 times as of today (August 16), and I had NOT made the connection you talk of where AUTO is ordering GO-4 on the bridge to remove and hide the plant while he goes down and wakes the Captain.
I had always thought that GO-4 must have removed the plant while he was transporting EVE along the corridors, but out of sight of WALL•E. By about my 8th viewing, I thought GO-4 was confirming to AUTO on the bridge that the plant had already been removed.
But your scenario makes SO much more sense! It's now a blindingly obvious bit that I just kept missing! The lack of spoken English just kept me guessing all that time!
Thanks Bubblegum . . . and bravo Pixar for placing the solution to a mystery right in front of my nose that was still a mystery to me for 10 straight viewings! THAT is GREAT filmmaking!
--------------------------------
But my favorite "edge of shot" realization this 10th time, was noticing EVE was pulsating with light patterns in many parts of her. Not only along her ion cannon, but under her arms, and the lights under her "head part" were casting changing reflections of light on the underside of her head. It became very sophisticated visual "light" poetry!
She became even more of an intriguing pleasure to look at this time. No wonder WALL•E fell in love!

Isn't that just beautiful? I was really struck by it during the scene in the trailer, especially when she's holding the lighter up to her face. I think I'd have been mesmerized by her too.
Another one I noticed the first time and now look for every time . . . when WALL-E is chasing after the transporter with EVE in it and he's running into all the other robots . . . as he bumps into a little one (about M-O size), it turns back to him and shouts in a robot-y kind of voice "Idiot!" I just laugh every time because that's totally a traffic experience.

I caught something new tonight. When WALL-E brings EVE the whisk and kind of shoves it in her face, EVE has this look on her face that says "Woah, okay, personal space, buddy!"

;D Yes, I LOVE all those moments in which he is trying to get closer and closer to her -- both in the introductions scene and the trailer scene -- and she keeps giving him those looks. He's just so eager and she's so suspicious. It feels so totally *real* because you see that all the time in human interactions.
