I completely forget sometimes how much work goes into the sound mixing in an animated film. Literally every sound caused by each characters' movements, or their dialogue itself in this case, had to be created by Burtt. Every time WALL-E rolls along the ground or hands EVE his collectibles, or every time EVE blinks or flies around, Burtt had to create those sounds from scratch.

Yes, that's one thing that really struck me the last time I saw the film -- when humans move, you don't have to insert a sound for every single movement they make because our joints don't make noises. (Normally ) But with WALL-E especially -- every single movement he makes has a sound associated with it. That must have just been crazy to do from a sound perspective.

Wow. I never really thought about that. I thought that this being "the biggest job of his career" was a pretty bold statement. But I guess it's kind of true. But I don't think everything was from scratch. He probably had some sound-mixing formulas already set to play with. And he repeated a lot of sounds. Like the ways Wall-E and Eve say each other's names.

It'll be highway robbery if he doesn't get any Oscars next year.
