Howdy everyone.
This genre of music was never brought up on the CMF, but does anyone here listen to opera/operaish music?
My personal favorite singers are Andre Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, The Three Graces, Paul Potts and IL Divo. I have seen Andre and IL Divo live in concert and I'm hoping to see Sarah Brightman in November.

Only Opera I've ever really listened to was in Phantom of the Opera, and that doesn't really count I wouldn't think. I really can't think of any real "opera" that I've heard and enjoyed. Sarah Brightman sounds extra familiar, though. Where would a non-opera fan know her from?

It seems everyone has started their operatic careers with Andrew at one point in time. I love listening to Sarah's version of the Phantom.

Oh, she's from Phantom. No wonder I know her. But yeah, PotO is great.

Never say never MovieMan. I wasn't sure if would like the style of music, but it grew on me. I'm willing to give any genre a chance.

Same here, I saw an Opera when I was very young, but I love Phantom, and that's not an actual opera, except for a few songs.

WOW . . . now I know this is a forum I want to stay on if there are some opera fans here too.
I don't know that much about opera, but I am a huge Gilbert and Sullivan fan, so I know a little about it in a parody sort of way. I sure love listening to classical and opera is just one of those genres I've never explored to much depth but hope to someday.

I was in choir in high school and my teacher was big on exposing us to a lot of opera and classical pieces. My favorite is Bizet's Carmen. My favorite aria is Lascia Ch'io Pianga from Handel's Rinaldo.

"Carmen" is so beautiful. It's funny though -- my first exposure to it was as a 5-year-old kid watching this . . . www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG-0_p_yefg . I just loved this short as a kid and it wasn't until years later that I found out this was actually a famous song. Seems like everything I know about Western Civilization I learned from the Muppets. That explains a lot, eh?

I'm the same way vanessajoyce, I don't know too much about opera, but I love to listen to them. I saw Andrea Bocelli 2 years ago in NYC. He has such a brilliant voice. I had a horrible seat, but the way he projected his voice, I felt like I was in the front row.

Yeah . . . so true. (sigh) Just like going to a concert of classical music -- it's when you're THERE seeing how the music is created and "feeling" it in a three-dimensional space, you really feel the power of it. Same way with jazz -- especially with people who do a lot of improvization -- gotta BE there and, if you're willing to lose yourself in what's happening, you'll totally get it -- and NEVER forget it.
