I was...4 years old when that movie came out. And I didn't hear about it until MUCH later, when I started to become interested in anime. And I STILL haven't seen the movie, despite having seen Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, and Kiki's Delivery Service.

Wow, you really should see it just for the historical aspect of it. It sort of set the tone for the whole Ghibli universe -- sort of like "Toy Story" did for Pixar. Of course, it's a really good story too.
