Every post I've seen related to The Godfather in some way is usually negative. While I agree it's a bit overrated, I still consider it one of my favorite movies. I don't think it's the greatest movie of all time by any stretch of the imagination, and I understand why people criticize it, but I still love it. Marlon Brando's performance can still enthrall me.
I like Part II better anyway. It's much more complex and thrilling than the first one, and it catches my attention more despite being longer. I also think Al Pacino is fantastic, and this film made him one of my favorite actors of all time. And Robert De Niro is also great as a younger Marlon Brando.
Part III is probably one of the crappiest films ever to end a great franchise. That being said, it's okay on its own. But at the same time, it keeps reminding you of how great the first two were (through a crapload of flashbacks). That, and Sofia Coppola's non-acting, and you've got yourself a lackluster conclusion.

Swan likes it. I'm on the side with those that found it boring and unappealing.

That's fair. I can see why you would find it boring (especially the first one, which could use an editing job).
One of the factors of me liking it so much is that I saw it as a kid (seven years old, I think). My dad had a video of it, and I wanted to see what it was all about, since he always went on about how great it was. So late at night, I decided to watch the whole thing, and it scarred me. I wanted to stop watching, but at the same time, I couldn't bring myself to turn off the VCR.
After that, what could I do? I watched the next two parts... ;D

Uh oh, I guess I'm one of those people on the receiving end of your wagging finger.
Nawww, I thought it was great! In fact, Marlon Brando's performance is incredible, and I think the scene in which Michael shoots those cops in the restaurant is the greatest scene in the franchise. I just concur with your point that it isn't the greatest film ever conceived. I think maybe I found it difficult to relate to, but that doesn't mean someone won't find it highly relatable. Rating films is just very subjective business.

I love it. To me, it is the most technically superior film of all time.
As for Part II - It's good, but it's so long and not nearly as interesting as the first. It may be a slightly more well-crafted film than the first (while the first had much better acting), but it's so slow and not nearly as interesting to me as the first is, that the first remains technically superior for me.
