Haha. Of all the messages in the film, an "anti-C-61 bill" message is the most unexpected to me.

The WALL•E picture used in the SFFaudio blog has been widely used before . . . but here, holding that "Copyright Criminal" sign, WALL•E looks so sad and confused!

Hehe, I really really appreciate the intent of this blog, I do. I hate arbitrary copyright laws that make criminals out of good people who just want to use their media their OWN way. However, I think 700 years in the future, copyrights have run out. I believe they're only allowed to be valid so long after the author's death, I forget the exact wording.

The only criminal thing here are those proposed laws, akin to the draconian DMCA in the U.S. The upcoming election can't come soon enough; I hope we get these guys out this time. Either way, though, I'll circumvent all the DRM I please. I'll even do it when I don't need to.
On the topic of that blog, I'm not sure WALL•E is guilty of all of those things.
First off, he didn't exactly make a bit-for-bit copy of the Hello, Dolly audio track... looked to me like he did the equivalent of holding a microphone close to a speaker. The result might be good enough to listen to, but I'm not sure anyone would care that he's carrying around a sub-CD (sub-VHS, even) quality copy of the audio. Had WALL•E been equipped with a LINE-IN, and used an RCA cable to go from the audio plugs on the VCR directly into himself, that might've been breaking these laws.
He also didn't platform-shift the VHS to an iPod. He was merely using the iPod to substitute for a television set; he must've jury-rigged some cabling to go from the VCR to the iPod dock's A/V input. The movie never actually wouldl've been stored on the iPod's hard drive.

Tsk tsk, WALL-E just can't win, can he? Who knew such a loveable little robot could cause THIS much controversy? ;D Very funny article.
