WALL-E may be taking over the #1 spot in my movie list. I dunno, I'll have to wait until I see it again on Thursday...but this will be the first time in something like 4 years that my favorite movie has changed if it does happen. More proof of the endearing power of one tiny robot.

Whoa. Huge. I know how big this is because I also don't change my top 5 around much. My previous #1 was there for over 8 years.
I hope WALL-E can do it!

For me, it's within an exclusive top-tier alongside a couple of other Pixar films and several live-action masterpieces. I still need to watch WALL-E a couple more times, though(as I'm waaaay behind next to you guys...)

I'm definitely gonna be watching this...I want to see if it happens.
I'm rooting for WALL-E because it's MY #1, and I've never seen Fight Club...doesn't really sound like it's my kind of movie anyway.

It didn't for me either, honestly, but it's much more than the previews and description would have you believe (it's actually a psychological, moral tale (with many of the same anti-consumerist undertones of WALL-E), not just men beating on each other like the incredibly bad previews would make you think). It'll definitely be hard to top, because that movie just came out of nowhere and topped my chart, but I think if WALL-E still holds it's charm and wonder for me on this viewing, which may very well be double digits by now (I haven't kept too great of a count of the downloaded version viewings), then it will definitely top my #1.

Before I had a couple favorite movies that kind of competed with each other, but I never really knew what was #1. But Wall-E definitely gets the spot. No question.

Me too. The last movie that makes me feel like this was The Return Of The King. I have a feeling that Wall-E will top it!

I was the same way...I wasn't sure what my favorite movie was before WALL-E came into my life.

I know what you mean. For me, there is a difference between my "favorite" films, and what I consider to be the "best" films ever made. WALL-E is near the top of both, although I admit it is a little bit closer to the top on the "favorites" list. Does anyone else relate, or do you not differentiate "best" from "favorites"? Maybe I'm just a little loony here.

Absolutely. "The Shawshank Redemption" is one of the best films ever made and I would watch it any time I had a chance, but it's not on my favorites list.
My "favorites" list is
1. Totally personal and like "comfort food". They are films that I either have an emotional attachment to because they touched me at a particular time in my life or they were about topics that I'm interested in. To show how completely "non-best" my list is . . . I actually have a Canadian made-for-TV movie on it.
2. Has some qualities to it that I want to study and understand how it was done; for example, one particular character that was so well developed, fantastic sets, etc.
3. Is a film I can watch over and over again and never get tired of. Again, that's just me. I can't watch "Schindler's List" 15 times a day, but I could watch "My Neighbors the Yamadas" all day long and then do it again the next day.
It just so happens that some of my favorites ("Grave of the Fireflies", "Dinner at Eight", "My Neighbor Totoro" and, of course, WALL-E) are also films that are considered great by real film critics.

I agree about favorites being films you can watch over and over; in fact, by that definition, WALL-E probably IS my #1 favorite film. And yes, Schindler's List is my classic example of favorites vs. best. It's not a film I enjoy watching, but it's probably the third-best film I've ever seen in my life.

Meh, for me, I don't think of "Best". After all, the world by and large (haha) considers The Godfather to be one of, if not the, "best" film of all time. I don't like it at all. Same goes for many of the "world's" best of films. I just consider my favorites and don't try to decide what the best is, because plenty of people out there could consider some of the most well-made films some of the worst, or at least not "best of", simply because the plot is wholely uninteresting.

I would probably be shot at if I said this in a film class, but I feel The Godfather is overrated as well. When I finally saw it I was very disappointed because of all the hype. I don't believe it's the best mobster film I've seen, nor is it Coppola's best (those would be Goodfellas and Apocalypse Now, respectively). It falls into my very crowded catagory of "artistically well done, but I don't care about the characters and/or see little connection to real human issues."
Now, Citizen Kane is a different story. I can see why so many people say that one is the best film ever made. But yes, I agree that film ratings are very subjective.
