This summer was odd; I don't remember large-budget films being released every single week in previous years. I mean, between Iron Man, Prince Caspian, Indy 4, Kung Fu Panda, Hulk, Get Smart, WALL-E, Hancock, Hellboy II, Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Dark Knight, The Mummy, Pineapple Express, and Tropic Thunder, I thought I was going to go insane. They need to space them out. I especially think this crowded summer hurt WALL-E, Hellboy, and Mummy.

Yeah it definitely hurt WALL-E, since it was at the beginning and right after that it was crowded out by other (not as good) films. Luckily this just helped prove that WALL-E had legs, though. Hellboy, I think, was partially hurt by the summer, partially by the low sales of the first film. The Hellboy films are clearly gonna remain "cult" films, and even though I loved them both, I don't expect mainstream success for any Hellboy film in the future now.
