is it just me or did anyone else get that haunting, empty, chill up and down your spine feeling as the last of the ads that wall-e walked past (the axiom one) flicked off and the same space dock scene from the past was then shown as it was in the present?

Oh, absolutely. That whole scene was just full of those shiver-y moments for me. "Happy" bright ads and voices against a dead world . . . very, very creepy.

That scene from WALL-E actually reminds me of a certain scene from the Time Machine movie that came out a few years back, where they also had holographic ads playing in a dead world... well actually, I think it was a holographic tour guide, but the context was very similar

It really is creepy and haunting. If I haven't read too many reviews and knowing too much about the story (something I still regretting until NOW) I would presume that human race are already vanished...

Most of the chills for me came when I first realized all the "skyscrapers" were giant piles of trash. Also when you see all the dead Wall-E's. But that's just me.
Oh and the "Evacuation Sale" sign gave me chills as well.

Realizing the skyscrapers were trash definitely gave me chills. I also got "good" chills for the EVE dance scene and the "Define Dancing" scenes.

Many scenes gave me chills. So many that I can't remember half of them. I think the one that gave me the most chills was the ending, where EVE presses play on WALL-E, and there's nothing but static. And also seeing WALL-E's eyes, how empty and blank they were, was actually kinda creepy...

Parts I can think of that gave me chills:
Realizing Wall-E was on a garbage skyscraper.
Wall-E running over the newspaper that says something about evacuation.
The projector ads.
The first couple dust storms.
The first time I watched the movie, and AUTO displayed Directive A11-3, I got chills with the thought, "Because AUTO kept this secret, Humans have been devolving for nothing."
...and of course, the song 2815 A.D. The timing of when that song starts is perfect. Everyone know what song I'm talking about?

I did. The moment you see WALL-E on top of the skyscraper and 2815 A.D. begins to play is like a sledgehammer to the cranium. The moment you're mentioning has a similar effect. In fact, the entire first five minutes is like that.

The dead Wall-Es. I felt endlessly sorry for them, looking so sad and run-down. That wrenching feeling came back when Eve couldn't get through to Wall-E. The static was indeed eerie.
If we're talking about good tingles too, man, the opening gets me every time. All those stars and that proud blast of "Out there! There's a world outside of Yonkers!"
Man, they managed to make Hello, Dolly! epic.

Wall-E is full of chilling moment from the very start (with the trash skyscraper and the haunting theme) until the very last BNL logo on the credits....
