There's an online petition to attempt to persuade the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to give WALL•E a Best Picture Oscar nomination. I found and signed it originally several weeks ago. You can find it at: www.petitionspot.com/petitions/walle4bestpictureI don't know how far this will get; but as I've been to the AMPAS and Oscar web sites, and they don't seem to take input from the public, this is worth a shot! There is also news from New York Magazine online's "Vulture" blog that a Disney-backed "Oscar" campaign is underway for WALL•E as of way back on June 27 (and a humorous "doctored" photo of WALL•E holding an Oscar . . . he could have found one of those in the film!) at: nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2008/06/confirmed_the_walle_oscar_camp.htmlThese behind-the-scenes studio campaigns seem to be an essential part of a motion picture's success at the Oscars these days, and the poll above seems to be about the only way we the movie-supporting public can participate in all this "lobbying" right now. If anyone has ideas on how we can further support a "WALL•E for Best Picture" campaign, or just help the film to do very well at the Oscars, let us know! WALL•E deserves it!

I'm quite skeptical of online petitions, as they almost never work, but I'll sign anyway, "just in case".

Signed it!
You're right MD, normally online petitions don't get anything accomplished, but it's still fun to share with the world how much we love this film!

www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/wall-e-on-its-way-to-a-best-picture-oscar-nod/ link . . . Wow . . . I am SOOOO offended by Andrew Stanton's "arrogance". I mean, how could he ignore marketing reports? Well, all I can say is if it's disrespect for audiences that made WALL-E and other Pixar films so great, I hope all the directors at Pixar keep right on kicking us in the posterior regions.

I agree. I mean, God forbid Pixar put all of their efforts into making a wonderful story that THEY think is worth telling, rather than trying to rake in loads of money by making a movie that would automatically appeal to the masses. Thank you, Sir! May I have another? ;D

Wow, Why Even Create A Pettion Like This? The Academy's Not Gonna Listen To Some Stupid Online Petition.

I think everyone on here is well aware of that, but like I said, it's STLL a good way to show our support of the film.

I was glad that most of the comments on there saw through Finke's disgusting attempt at manufacturing controversy when there is NONE at all. As for the petition... no offense to any fans, but I'm not going to sign it. Many petitions have hundreds of thousands of signatures and are ignored anyway. This has gotten about ten signatures within several weeks. There's just no chance of this having any impact at all. What I do hope is that the people behind Disney's juggernaut marketing machine acknowledge WALL-E's high quality and develop a strong campaign for it when the season arrives.

SIGNED! I'm signature #12. Yes, MovieMan, they probably won't listen to us but it can't hurt to try.

I signed it. Just because I felt like it. It's not going to do squat, but who cares? It's my way of showing support for the campaign. And it's not going to harm Wall-E's chances of getting nominated. It can only help if it has any effect at all.

One problem is that this petition doesn't seem to come up prominently in Google and Yahoo searches. I found it by accident while looking for something else concerning WALL•E. I, too, am disappointed with both how hard to find this petition is, and how little support it has received so far. It is said though that the flap of a butterfly's wings in Africa can lead to a hurricane in the Atlantic. So sometimes we may not know what our actions or support in one little thing could wind up accomplishing. . . . After all, look at what WALL•E's deciding to pick up one little plant wound up accomplishing! I think WALL•E would sign that petition if he could! So let's perhaps take every little, seemingly meaningless, action we can if we want to support this film . . . who knows what might happen!
