I noticed there wasn't a thread for this yet, so I might as well post.
The seven-time Academy Award winner sound designer Gary Rydstrom – “in fact he’s been nominated for 14 Academy Awards,” says John Lasseter, “so we prefer to call him the seven-time Academy Award loser” – will make his feature directing debut (he directed Pixar short Lifted) with this tale of the last two remaining, male and female blue-footed newts, put together in a science lab to mate. The problem? They can’t stand each other. “Newt is smart but he’s never had to think for himself and is pampered,” says Rydstrom. “Brooke [his proposed partner] on the other hand is streetwise and not to be messed with. It’s fair to say it’s about as bad as first dates can get.”
Sounds a bit... PG, don't you think? I can see this being a dialogue-based romantic comedy of some sort.

I'm looking forward to this one. Had no clue there wasn't a thread for it. Definitely another risk for Pixar, IMO, but I think they can do it.

Oooooh . . . I hope it's good because that description makes me feel like I just read the exact same plot for 90% of DreamWorks' films.
Prove me wrong, Pixar. Puhhhh . . . lease . . .

I'll wait for more information to be released before I form any kind of pre-release impression. I must admit, though, this sounds like it could easily be a DreamWorks film filled with crude gags and excessive irreverence. There must be something more to the premise...

To be fair, regarding the DreamWorks comment, it could also have been said when given the basic plots of both Finding Nemo and Ratatouille, though, possibly even Monsters, Inc. I do think there's definitely more to the premise, though. I just don't think Pixar is ready to start making bad movies yet.

Exactly. Pixar has earned my trust and if you earn my trust, you keep it. In Pixar's case they'd have to do several awful, awful films and in a row before I'd stop trusting them.

Hey c'mon guys, don't get me wrong! I trust them completely as well, and I know for sure this won't be like a typical DreamWorks flick. I'm eager to learn more about this project.

Oh, no -- your post was actually much more positive than mine, so I felt the need to make sure I wasn't giving the wrong impression. If there's anyone I'd trust to give Pixar every benefit of the doubt, it's you, Viva.

Actually, this sounds like one of the most interesting upcoming Pixar films to me. I think the characters could be ones that anyone can relate to. I'm secretly hoping they get Steve Buscemi as Newt.
