This topic feels to me kind of like a "WALL•Es Anonymous" meeting intro . . . so I'm Norwesterner, and I'm unexpectedly hooked on WALL•E!
I had noticed the previews and PR (I won't call it "hype", because if anything, it elegantly understated what this film truly is!) for WALL•E, and just decided to make it the first Pixar film I would actually see in theatres. WOW, was I in for perhaps the cinematic surprise of my life so far! It had more heart, warmth, visual poetry, simplicity yet depth, than any other movie I've seen!
As I've already posted elsewhere, WALL•E is the first movie I've ever seen over five times in first run (I normally don't see even movies I like more than twice in theatres, but it's 9 and counting for me so far with WALL•E!) Ever since seeing it the 2nd time, I've been in search of decent WALL•E books (that adults could enjoy), as well as picking up the almost mandatory small WALL•E and EVE figures that grace my night stand and stare at me hand-in-hand each morning and night now! (I actually bought them as inspiration of a sort towards encouraging me to find a real soul mate this time -- the WALL•E and EVE relationship is the best and most moving I've seen on film in years . . . perhaps ever!) And I STILL get misty-eyed practically every time I see the movie!
The perhaps screwy thing is that I'm an involuntarily-divorced, decent-looking 45 year-old single guy, with an above average interest in animation, sci-fi, and movies and stories with heart. I live in a rural area, and have NO ONE else in my life currently to even begin talking about WALL•E with! I tried taking a casual woman friend to see it -- and she dissed it as an animated kids movie (so I'm done with trying to take her to movies!) I've mentioned WALL•E prominently on a singles profile elsewhere, but no bites yet -- which is strange, because you'd think a movie of such heart would attract people interested in affairs of the heart! So I'm almost tempted to start a WALL•E singles' discussion thread somewhere around this forum, but thought I'd start here for now!
I've written a couple fan fic pieces over on FanFiction.net -- The Connection and The Connection 2 -- under this pen name. As there were no good WALL•E novels out, other than a very basic WALL•E Junior Novel, I just felt compelled to start writing my own stories to give myself more WALL•E entertainment!
I want to thank WALL•E and its creators for reawakening a faith in companionship and even love in me. If a video tape can inspire a lonely robot to take a chance with a beautiful probe that is deposited at his doorstep by a rocket ship, and it winds up blossoming into an almost wordless romance and life-risking love . . . there is hope for us all!
