I seem to recall hearing him say her name a couple times when I saw the movie for the second time. Does M-O pronounce EVE's name that way because that's the way WALL-E pronounces it, and since he never heard EVE say her own name he just doesn't know any better? I guess the alternative would be that M-O also has speech difficulties like WALL-E. I kind of doubt that's the case, though.

I can't remember off the top of my head at which point he said her name, so I can't really say for sure, but I would assume it was because he heard WALL-E call her that.

Hey, you're right! I do remember this! And I remember thinking, "oh, now, everyone's calling her that!" but totally forgot about it -- next scene just kind of demands all my attention whenever I see the movie. Interesting . . . so now I'm wondering is this because M-O also has very limited "speech" capability? (Maybe even less capability than WALL-E?) Can't wait to read everyone's speculation on this thread.

Yes, the following scene is, you know...kind of important.
Back to M-O...I personally don't think he does have speech issues. I think he just assumed that's how EVE's name is pronounced, because that's the way WALL-E says it.
I guess that thought could be overturned if M-O had met EVE before the movie started, and they had introduced themselves to each other. I'm going off the assumption that this is not so...I don't think we see any evidence in the movie that M-O and EVE already knew each other. I think that, if they had come into contact with each other at all, M-O might have cleaned her while she was in a deactivated state, like we see in the movie.

Hmmm . . . I wouldn't necessarily agree because I personally would give M-O a lot more default knowledge. Not on the level of EVE's capability, but I would think being a robot on the Axiom would mean you would have a pretty good idea of what all your fellow robots were called and what their jobs were. (I saw the film again last night, and the rogue robots also call her "Evah" too when they see her after she, WALL-E and M-O have escaped from the trash floor.)
My take would be a little different -- I'm sure everyone here has had the situation where a child in the family can't pronounce someone's name (in our case my sister couldn't say "Grandma" but she called her "Gram") and because it's so cute and affectionate the other people in the family who, of course, can say the name start calling the person by that name too. (We kept that name for our grandma all our lives.) That's how I'd spin this . . . maybe M-O can say "Eve", but once he's gotten to know her and feels attached to WALL-E, he'd rather refer to her by the affectionate name that shows respect for WALL-E and EVE's relationship and his friendship with both of them.
The same would go for the other rogue robots -- WALL-E's pronunciation just becomes a more informal name that indicates friendship to robots who could say her name correctly.
Just my two cents . . .

Hm, I didn't think about it that way...almost like "EVAH" became a nickname of sorts? That's definitely a possibility. And I didn't realize other robots called her that too...I thought M-O was the only one. I'll have to watch out for that next time I see it.

Can someone point out to me the part when M-O heard Wall-E say Eve's name? Because I don't think I remember Wall-E ever saying her name in front of him. Or maybe I'm just stupid.

Okay . . . now I'm having to replay the scenes detail by detail in my mind to make sure I haven't made an assumption . . . 1. When GO-4 is taking EVE away on the cart, WALL-E yells "EVAH!" and chases after them. M-O and his robots are coming right behind and this is when M-O notices WALL-E's dirt trail. So, he could have heard it then. 2. Second time they are all three together is in the trash floor with the WALL-As. When WALL-E and EVE are stuck in the trash cubes, he is saying her name over and over again (I remember that especially because it makes me start to cry every time), but M-O is too far away to hear. (So, not a good example.) 3. When EVE has rescued WALL-E and they're all sitting with the WALL-As' lights on them, WALL-E whispers, really softly "Evah." And his eyes flop over a little, as if they're starting to fall off. She says "Wall-eee." And adjusts his eyes so they're stable again. Then M-O starts to clean WALL-E. Yeah, I have every single movement memorized. Especially in that scene.

A definitive moment when M-O calls EVE "Ee-vah" is when M-O finds the plant and boot on the floor of the Lido Deck after the Captain rights the Axiom, and EVE calls out desperately for the plant, in order to put it in the Holo-Detector and free her trapped WALL•E. You can hear M-O quite clearly say, "Ee-vah" when he hoists the plant off the floor.

In Russian official localization everyone calls her EVA 'cause it's Russian translation of name "Eve". And I think M-O calls her so because WALL-E does.
