This is a wonderful movie. I watched it just yesterday, and I was really blown away by it. Even if you don't usually like old movies, and even if the plot doesn't sound interesting (it didn't to me before I saw it, either), it's still something everyone should see. If only because it's so unique from other films. www.imdb.com/title/tt0050083/

This movie astounds me every time I see it. I mean, I know what's going to happen, but somehow I still just get mesmerized and can't tear myself away from it. My husband doesn't go for dramas at all and he just LOVES this movie.
The only problem is John Fiedler. Every time he talks I think "It's Piglet!" and it sort of breaks the spell. ;D I obviously have had too much Disney intake in my life.

Mmm, I never expected a movie like this to receive so much praise, but I suppose I definitely have to see it now.

His goofy voice made me happy. But I definitely agree with your first paragraph. Mmm, I never expected a movie like this to receive so much praise, but I suppose I definitely have to see it now. Why not?

Eh, just looks like a pretty average movie from that time period. I'll definitely check it out and see why all the praise, eventually.

I decided to watch this after the recommendations on this thread and, WOW, I agree. This was a d*mn good movie.
What stood out for me was not so much the murder mystery itself but the performances. All twelve actors are authentic and fully believable from beginning-to-end. And I really liked the smooth camerawork too, and how it often remained in a single continuous shot(sometimes lasting for minutes). There's too much fast-cutting in movies nowadays.
I give it a 9/10.

So glad you got to see it. And the thing of it is -- the more times you see it the more you see all the little details in those fantastic performances. It's one of those movies that NEVER gets old no matter how often I see it. The intensity in the eyes of the characters gets me every time.
