G-rated I don't know, but "Finding Nemo" holds the box-office record for animation currently, I think. Actually, it's Shrek 2 at $441 million(it's fourth on the list of all-time domestic grossers).

What do you guys WALL-E will make foreign/worldwide? I think it's got a solid shot of at least 350 million in foreign gross, assuming it doesn't reach the 400 miillion and above levels of Ratatouille's foreign gross. I also think it has a good shot at either 225 or 250 million domestic (it seems to be hanging in there better than anyone predicted, so it's *possible* at least). If it managed the high levels of 250 domestic and 350 foreign, that'd put it up at 600 million worldwide. I don't think that's out of range for WALL-E to achieve in the long run at all.

Nice 600million -180million to make = 520 million, not bad

Right! I knew someone here would know. Personally, I think it will actually do really well outside North America. I'm thinking especially Asia. Peole there are used to anime and more sophisticated stories in the medium, so I think it may actually do kind of like what "Nightmare Before Christmas" did -- do reasonably well in the home market and then just explode in the foreign markets. (If you do a search on eBay you'll see more products made in Asia for "Nightmare" than were ever made in the States.) The news articles I'm seeing from like Malaysia and Japan are really, really complementary and the questions the interviewers ask are more intelligent. They seem to "get" everything -- even the "Hello Dolly" stuff. It just really seems to me that the cultures that respect animation just couldn't help but be crazy about it.

Thanks! You're right, these people definitely do get WALL-E...and I guess I shouldn't be surprised at all. Animation just seems to be respected more in other parts of the world.

Yeah, I wonder why it's taking so long for it to be released in those countries. Especially Japan; I mean, December?!

It's a love story! Which means it will be big for Christmas (which is for the Japanese more like Valentine's Day is for North America) ;D
But seriously . . . it probably has more to do with the translation and distribution of the film. Miyasaki just had a big film release and perhaps Pixar didn't want to give the impression they were going up against the Great One of Anime.

Something interesting about the box-office estimates today. Right now, it's WALL-E's first week off the charts... And for a while now, Hancock's been above WALL-E since it's a Will Smith movie and it's been out a shorter time. But look at this... 13. Wall-E $1,840,000 14. Hancock $1,800,000 Now granted, these are estimates, but still...

Yeah, I think it's a sure thing that WALL-E will have better legs than Hancock. It's got all around better reviews, more continuing word-of-mouth, and a G rating going for it.
