CHAPTER 6
THIS CAN'T BE REAL
Quentin, Hud, and Rob ran back in to the apartment. The lights were off and turned back on. Quentin heard Charlie telling someone it felt like an earthquake.
Quentin saw Jason talking to Lily, asking her if she was alright. Quentin also noticed Hud race over to Marlena and asked if she was ok. She just looked at him and kept walking.
Jason walked over to the TV and turned it to the news.
"Wait, here we go, here we go, here we go, here we go." Jason said
"Wait. Everyone quiet down. All right?" Rob said as he turned the volume up
"But now, just approximately..." The news caster said
"Shh! Shut up, shut up." Hud said interrupting the news
"...15 minutes after word..." The news caster continued
"Guys! Come on." Jason said
"...of a possible earthquake in lower Manhattan. Near by, in New York Harbor, we're getting word of an oil tanker capsizing in the middle of the harbor near the Statue of Liberty. Once again..." The new caster was interrupted by Hud again
"Dude, that's really close." Hud said as Jason looked over at him
"...there is no way to know if any..." once again, Hud talked over the news caster
"That's really, really close."
"That's true. Do you think we could see something from the roof?" Antonio said.
"I don't know, maybe." Hud said
"J, you wanna go to the roof?" Antonio said
"Let's go see if we can see something on the roof." Jason confirmed
"Come on, Jason. We're no going up on the roof." Lily said
"Yeah, let's go to the roof" Antonio said
"I don't think we should." Jenn said
Quentin couldn't make out what was said after that. Everyone was talking at the same time.
In the stairwell, Quentin overheard one of Rob's friends asking someone if they thought it was another terrorist attack. Everyone's voices flooded the stairwell again.
Quentin did hear Hud say "It's insane, man." He didn't know what he was talking about. He must have missed something.
Quentin heard a baby crying in one of the apartments. He knew something bad was happening. He didn't need to hear it on the news or look at it himself. He knew something was up. Something big. Really big.
"It was shaking everywhere man. Just like tremors." One of Rob's friends said to Jason and Lily
Quentin heard someone else say that they thought they blew up the trains.
"Is this the only lights that went out?" Jason asked the party goer
"No, a couple did. Some stayed on."
"Oh man, what is going on?" Hud asked Rob
"I dunno. I think something big is happening though..." Quentin said
"Maybe you should have left town earlier, right?" Hud said to Rob
"Shut up." Rob replied
Just as those words left Rob's mouth, a large boom was heard in the distance, shortly followed by a gigantic explosion.
"Oh no..." Hud said
As Hud said that, he panned the camera up to look at the flaming debris that few into the air.
Quentin heard the party goers exclaiming things like "Oh my God!" and "No no no." He was too shocked by what just happened. He stood, frozen with fear.
"Go go go go go go go!" Hud exclaimed
That snapped Quentin back to his senses and he ran back to the entrance to the stairwell with Rob and Hud close to him.
"Hud!" Rob and Quentin yelled out as he fell to the stairs.
They hurried back to him and helped him up before he was trampled by everyone.
Everyone made it out of the apartment and collected in the street. Everyone was running.
"Did anybody get hurt?" Rob asked
"I'm fine, but where's Jason?" Quentin asked
"Did anybody see Jason or not?" Hud asked loudly
Everyone started running faster and started screaming as Rob, Quentin, Hud, Lily, and Marlena stood in place looking for Jason.
"Did anybody see Jason? Has anybody seen Jason?" Hud continued to ask
"Is he still inside!?" Lily asked, somewhat panicking
Suddenly, everyone looked up to see something large flying through the air. It hit a nearby building and rocketed toward where Rob, Quentin, Hud, Lily, and Marlena were standing.
"Oh my God! Oh! Oh my God!" Hud screamed as he raced for the sidewalk.
"Oh, Jesus Christ!" Hud said as he focused the camera on the object, which now slid down the road, shooting sparks everywhere, knocking cars and street lights out of the way.
"Jesus Christ! NO FREGGIN' WAY! THIS CAN'T BE REAL! THIS CAN'T BE REAL!" Quentin kept yelling
The object was now visible. It was mangled and scarred. Chunks were missing out of it.
"OH GOD! OH GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" Someone else yelled out
It was the head of the Statue of Liberty.
