Discuss them here. AUTO was a nice homage to HAL from 2001. Him blindly following his directive definitely helped add some drama/action to the film. GO-4 was probably my least favorite bot, just because he was so undeveloped. It was hard to tell if he was an extension of AUTO, or his own being.

I thought it was funny what happened to GO-4, I really expected him to hit the diving board that first time. HEh.

I figured that just launch him into the water and have him fry. It got a pretty good laugh out of me that he just went splat.

I just laughed when he went out the window, breaking it, I thought he would just hit it and fall down, without breaking it.

Yea, it was like a homage to old cartoons where you see something and expect it but they pull something else on ya.

I guess GO-4 didn't get much development because he's just the flunky. AUTO was the real antagonist, so there was a lot more focus on him. But yeah, I actually kind of forgot about GO-4 after the first time I saw the movie, I'm ashamed to say.

I haven't really decided if he was just an undeveloped character for that reason, or if he might've actually been an extension of AUTO.

By "an extension of", do you mean that they share a common AI? Or that the AI resides in AUTO, and he just controls GO-4 remotely? Or something else entirely?

I guess any of the above would fit my thoughts. Either AUTO controls GO-4 via his AI or a remote, or perhaps GO-4 and AUTO are both part of the same AI, and GO-4 is a way for AUTO to move about the ship rather than being confined to the Captain's quarters and the bridge.

In . . . ter . . . est . . . ing . . . . I never thought of GO-4 as being an extension of AUTO's AI. He struck me as having his own personality (sort of a glorified security guard who thinks he's a lot more important than he really is) separate from AUTO's . . . but I wonder now if that was just something I superimposed over the characters . . . something to think about in future viewings. Honestly I'm still at the stage when I watch the film that i just can't take my eyes off of WALL-E and EVE. I'm constantly looking to see where they are and what they're doing, so the other characters still slip under my radar for serious observation.

It's definitely an interesting thought. In any case, having only seen the movie twice, I can't quite determine if GO-4 is his own self or if he's part of AUTO somehow.

Hmm, upon my playthrough of the game there seemed to be several GO-4's who seemed to be doing their own thing. While I'm sure the game isn't exact, I'm going to speculate that GO-4 was indeed intended to be his own bot. it's the lack of any thing that could be referred to as a face that throws me, I guess, although the same can be said for the steward bots.

I'll be honest, when GO-4 was thrown out the window and smashed onto the ground, I was a bit sad. I don't know why, I just sort of liked him. Maybe it had something to do with how quiet and obedient he was. For some reason, I felt like there was some good deep down inside him. I know I'm probably thinking into it too hard, but I did feel a short sadness when he went splat. AUTO was cool, but he was also a major jerk. Obvious reasons. No explanation needed.

I hadn't realized until recently that MacInTalk has its own board at IMDB, haha. AUTO's "voice actor" FTW.
