What did your friends and family think of WALL-E?

My friend/ex said "that was pretty good, the robot's were absolutely adorable, I never thought anyone could make me love a cockroach" (she's very very afraid of all forms of insect life) then later on when she'd though about it a while, she said, "that was a good movie".

I don't think I know anyone else who's seen it. :/

Everyone I've talked to has been very positive (not as enthusiastic as me, of course). Of course, I think some of them might just be being nice since they see my blog and know that saying they didn't like it would probably bring down a woman's wrath.

My brother saw it first, and he told my mom and I that it was "really good", and that he wouldn't mind seeing it a second time with us. He's not a movie person by nature, so for him to want to see a movie a second time basically translates to "Wow, that movie was PHENOMENAL!"

My mom I think was initially unsure because she had heard that it didn't have much dialogue in it. But afterward she said "That movie didn't need to have a lot of dialogue to be good." A few days later, I remember a conversation that somehow led to her imitating "WAAAAAALLLL-EEEE" and "EEEEEVAAAAAHHH", and then she said "I loved that movie!"

The day I saw it with my friend, after I left his house, he went over to IMDB and immediately rated it a 10/10. And I think just yesterday he called it "one of the best movies I will ever see, if not THE best."

My friends all loved it. My friend was the one who dragged me to go see it in the first place. She also forced me to stay through the credits, which I didn't mind at all. They all seemed just as amazed by it as I was when we were leaving the theater. My one friend wanted to get a picture with the cardboard standup, and I joined her, because I did too. But all the excitement kind of wore off as the night went on. Everyone was talking about who knows what but I couldn't stop saying, "WAAAALLL-EEEE" in a very bad imitation of Wall-e's voice. They were talking about the movie for a while, but then Dark Knight came out

My sister was almost as big a Wall-E fan as me. We went shopping for Wall-E toys one day and then we went to see the movie in our matching Wall-E t-shirts. She still kind of likes Wall-e, but now she's obsessed with twilight.

My other sister liked it a lot when she went to see it with my other sister and wanted to see it again and again and again. She insisted I give her my bootleg copy so she could watch it when she wasn't feeling well. She tried to convince her husband to go see it, but he didn't want to. She promised she'd take me to go see it in theaters. but she never kept that promise.

My mom refused to see it for the longest time. She got so annoyed with my endless ranting about it and "wasting" my money on Wall-E stuff. But she finally went to see it with me, my grandmother, and my brother. She thought it was cute, but it "wasn't like she wanted to shell out money to see it again." My grandmother had more to say about it though. She thought it was "clever" and that she couldn't "absorb it all". I think she was talking about the animation and creativity with the fictional technology. She thought it was really neat how there was no dialogue, but it seemed as if they were carrying on a normal conversation.

My dad just thinks I'm nuts. But I think if he saw the movie (which he hasn't yet) he would like it. He's one of those philosophical people who has a lot to say about science, religion, politics, etc. And this is one of those philosophical themes that sparks a lot of discussion.

My mom enjoyed it when I took her to see it with me on my fourth viewing. My dad thought it was boring when we went to see it together (my first time), but when I took him to see it again, he thought it was much better the second time. I had been trying so hard to get him to come with me again because he was just planning on seeing it again when it came out on cable. He was going to go see another movie while I went to see WALL-E for the seventh time, but at the last second he changed his mind and decided to come with me.

My friends all enjoyed the movie, but one of my friends thinks I'm crazy for liking it as much as I do. Everyone who comes into my dorm comments on my U-Repair WALL-E sitting on the shelf. I haven't brought my smaller WALL-E and EVE figures out of the shoebox I'm keeping them in yet because I feel like I should phase them in slowly. Speaking of which, my roomate and a couple of friends went to Target the other day and came back all excited because they had bought a WALL-E kleenex box for me. They had no idea that I already had two of those, but I didn't say anything...that was so nice of them.

All my friends are unanimous in their praise for the movie, which really makes me happy. My family, however, is another story.

My dad thought it was boring. My mom really didn't think it was anything special. And my brother thought Kung Fu Panda was better...

I am still a bit upset about that, but everybody has different opinions, so whatever. Still, I'm hoping it gets nominated for Best Picture, if only just so I can p*ss everybody off in the household when I brag about how great the movie is. ;D

Hehe, if WALL-E doesn't get nominated for Best Picture, maybe Kung Fu Panda will at least not get nominated for Best Animated Feature. then at least you tick off your brother.

Well, the first time I saw it, I brought my friend with me (and, lol, *I* was the one with low expectations! (Someone smack me.)) and we both loved it. I kept sneaking glances at her every now and then, and she was really into it, gasping in horror at a certain scene with WALL-E and AUTO, looking like she would cry at the end, laughing in all the right places (as was I). And as we left the theater, having stayed to watch to the very end of the credits, she said "That was great." I answered "I think it was the best, and deepest, Pixar film yet."
(And some random old couple behind us seemed to like it too. I heard the woman say to her husband "You know, I think we were meant to see that film..." Aww...)

Now, my second viewing...with my grandparents...that's another story. I had to work REALLY hard to convince them to see it with me, and kept saying "It's really good, really cute, I loved it..." So they finally relented, and...well...
My granma kept clearing her throat all throughout the film, something I didn't think much of, but when the screen went black and the credits started...
Grandpa: "So, can we go now?"
Grandma: *sigh* "Femalemiya likes watching the credits...so no."
Me: *sees their discomfort* "No, let's just go."
-Walking out-
Grandpa: *starts chuckling* "We just saw a KID'S movie."
Me: "I liked it!"
Grandpa: "Yeah, okay, but...It was a love story...between robots!" *laughs all over again*
I didn't speak to them on the car-ride home...

I remember that story! Did you post it here before? I coulda swore I read it on IMDb, so maybe you posted it there. That disgusts me, that they were such old farts about the whole thing. If a love story is automatically a kids movie because of the people/things involved, or because it's animation, then you can just call me one great big kid!

Yeah, I did put it on imdb. And I know what you mean about being "one great big kid!" I'll always be that way. *^^* (I was a bit surprised by their reaction...I mean, they were okay with Lilo and Stitch...)

...Wow. Nothing against Lilo and Stitch, but I don't get how anyone couldn't get the difference between that movie and a classic, for all ages, of WALL-E's caliber.

I saw it with my parents, and they both very much enjoyed it. My mom in particular seems to have really loved it, because she keeps mentioning WALL-E-related anecdotes to me(yesterday, she mentioned that one of her students had a "WALL-E-themed desktop"... perhaps the HyperDesk theme? ;D).

The first time I saw WALL-E was with a friend who tends to be quite conservative on the political spectrum. She loved the film so much she saw it twice, and declared it to be Pixar's best yet. So, you see, it actually is possible to enjoy a film without politicizing it.
