I'll be honest, when GO-4 was thrown out the window and smashed onto the ground, I was a bit sad. I don't know why, I just sort of liked him. Maybe it had something to do with how quiet and obedient he was. For some reason, I felt like there was some good deep down inside him. I know I'm probably thinking into it too hard, but I did feel a short sadness when he went splat. AUTO was cool, but he was also a major jerk. Obvious reasons. No explanation needed. I was the same way. I was sad when he got thrown out the window. It just didn't seem right. He seemed pretty innocent to me. He was just doing his job. I guess the people who built him made sure he would never be able to have a personality. Him and AUTO. Don't know exactly how you would program something to prevent it from having a personality, but whatever.

Interesting. The fact that he would steal the plant from EVE and cause her so must frustration made me immediately dislike him when I realized that it was him who had the plant the whole time. And then that shot of him holding EVE in the tractor beam and just staring completely coldly as AUTO electrocuted WALL-E drained away any sympathy I might have had for him. But now I can see why some might have felt it was a bit heavy-handed to basically "kill" him off so completely.

GO-4 reminds me of the clock Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast. I think of his personality as being a pompous fussbudget, it must have been the way he was marching and scanning all the EVE units when they returned from Earth. While watching the movie I've never thought of Go-4 as being an extension of AUTO, that's an interesting viewpoint though. I kind of thought he was a personal assistant bot to the Captain and a spy for AUTO. During the scene where WALL-E wheels deactivated EVE into the Bridge and AUTO scans her for the first time, AUTO turns to GO-4, dips one of his spokes to him, and GO-4 salutes him. This relay of communication between AUTO and GO-4 suggested to me that they had separate personalities. AUTO is my favorite character so any scene with him in it is studied with great detail.

I like to think of it this way: If AUTO were the Captain (as he practically already was), GO-4 would be the first officer

*nod*
AUTO = Skipper
GO-4 = Gilligan

CLEAR! *tazers topic back to life*
A lot of this topic is focused on GO-4 more than Auto...so, I take it upon myself to start up something for the wheel!
What do you guys think will happen to Auto now? He wasn't exactly smashed against the Pool Deck, just turned off. D'you think he has a shot at redemption? Or, if he were reactivated, do you think he'd just want revenge?

Were you the one that wrote the Fan Fic with him talking about how he felt, then the other one with WALL-E mentoring him? Honestly those were so good that I like to think those are the things that really happened.

Thanks! You flatter me I'd like to think that's what happens, too. Auto would probably be bitter for a while...but Wall-E would soften him up. After all, everyone deserves a second chance, even mutinous wheels.

GO-4 reminds me of the clock Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast. That's a good comparison, though I would have likened him to Dwight Schrute from "The Office". Like, give it a rest, you brown-nosing little twerp! ;D I like AUTO fics where he's gotten his shot at redemption. I read one once called "Aftermath" where AUTO has mellowed out a lot and is on good terms with McCrea and EVE and, yes, even Wall-E. What are yours called, Castoro? Can I find them at FF.net? I'd like to read 'em!
