Cool, that definitely settles that. And I'm bored so I think I'm gonna go play that game. ;D

Leave it to Pixar to create a cockroach character that ends up stealing your heart. Be honest; how many of you felt a little momentary twinge of grief that first time Wall-E accidently ran Hal over? I did! Then when Eve blasted him, it was like "silly EVE, you're wasting your shot -- you can't kill a cockroach!"

I did when I saw it in the previews for sure. Since I'd seen that shot in the previews so much I knew what was gonna happen, but it still effected me a little.

It's too bad he didn't get to come with WALL-E to the Axiom...but I'm sure WALL-E didn't want to expose him to unnecessary danger. Even if he IS immortal.

I was guessing he'd probably not be able to survive space, but everyone seems to agree that he's immortal, lol. I just figured he was really really tough.

I jumped when he got squished by the newly-repaired WALL-E near the end. That was so sudden and shocking. I was relieved when he sprang back up.
That's an amazing thing for Pixar to do because I hate cockroaches in real life.

Yeah, me too, actually. I could hold it together for the rats in Ratatouille if I just kept reminding myself that they weren't real, but Hal was more tricky. I used to live in the southern USA so we had them CONSTANTLY and it was a constant battle to keep them out of your house -- even in posh neighborhoods. Fortunately he was so sweet and obviously was very loyal to WALL-E so that helped out and by the end I had kind of forgotten what he was. In fact, when EVE comes out of the Axiom holding WALL-E and Hal comes up, looks at WALL-E's condition and then looks up at EVE, I thought, "Oh, boy . . . she's got some explaining to do 'cause WALL-E sure didn't look like that the last time Hal saw him!"
It's funny -- I actually read someone's blog in which they were talking about how much they loved WALL-E, but this person gave the film a 4/5 because "it had a cockroach in it and I just CAN'T stand them."

Haha, "Eeeevaaa, you've got some 'splainin' to do!" Oh I meant to mention this early, but I found out the cockroach's name is "Hal", named after producer "Hal Roach" and perhaps as another nod to 2001: A Space Odyssey. I never knew that first fact until my grandmother told me. Has anyone else thought about this: that Hal is amportant clue that life is sustainable on earth? Bugs need food/oxygen/water too, right? That and the mere fact that it rains on earth... I wonder if they put those two things there on purpose as a little clue or if it was just a coincidence.

I thought about that too. Of course, there's that misconception that cockroaches are really tough and when I was a kid in school and we still were afraid of nuclear war, there was this saying that when a nuclear war happened, the only thing that would survive all the radiation would be cockroaches. So, I think the idea is that if only cockroaches are alive, it's still a pretty bad place.

And twinkies! ;D
I think the twinkies were probably the only food that Hal was able to find, considering that any old human food was probably long gone by then. Plus the fact that there weren't any plants to produce more food (not counting WALL-E's plant, obviously).

I had my heart in my mouth when Hal was run over by mistake - each time. Really stressful!! When i saw the film, one of my favourite moments of viewing it in public was the reaction of one audience member. When she saw Hal waiting for Wall-E in the same position in which he was left, this woman cried out "He is still there waiting!!!!!" It was quite funny as she sounded like a mature woman who was there with her kids and did not expect to be affected in such a strong way by the loyalty of an insect lol i was moved by how even tho Wall-E now has a partner Hal is still as close to him as ever and vice versa and how Eve accepts this too. Ha robots and insects are so much more advanced than a lot of humans ;D

Even after I saw the movie, I would get scared every time I saw a roach. However I saw one the other day, and I just kind of smiled at it.
That isn't to say that I'm not afraid of roaches anymore, because I am.
I know. I especially love the bit when Hal comes running up to WALL-E and EVE after the Axiom lands and he kind of looks at EVE like "What on earth happened?!"

I kinda got the idea that he was a bit reproachful of EVE for bringing WALL-E back in such bad shape, too. I was thinking, "uh-oh, EVE's gonna get it!" Wow...I didn't realize Hal had so much personality until just now. Heh.
